The Battle for Barking

For Y10's or those interested in the Unit Religion & Prejudice, very insightful documentary The Battle Barking which talks about the growth of the British National Party and its racist platform. Unfortunately our text books needs an update. They talk about the problems of prejudice, racism and discrimination using male models and examples from the past, for example, Martin Luther King & Gandhi. Little or nothing say about Rosa Parks, the lady who refused to give her seat to a white male and ended in jail. After her imprisonment a wave of civil rights protests took off in the States with massive consequences. What about talking about women from Dageham, for example? These women were workers who led a powerful strike in Britain during the sexist 70's. What about recent examples of prejudice: the crescent and worrying prejudice against immigrants and asylum seekers. Finally, let's talk about not only about Holocaust but recent genocides too, for example, Srebrenica, against Muslim men and boys & Rwanda. If you would like to discuss this further, talk to me in room 28.
