Why did I have Pancake for my lunch?

Find out the symbolism and importance of Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday here. It is a very important tradition and it precedes "Ash Wednesday".  It is call "ash" because it signifies the ashes come from burning the palm crosses from "Palm Sunday" of the previous year. It marks the beginning of Lent which is a time of preparation of Easter, the most important Christian Festival. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, penance, repentance, charity (alms-giving) to celebrating the holy week in remembrance of the events preceding Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection.
